Back to School Safety

Back to School Safety

As the summer draws to an end, it’s time to prepare you and your child to go back to school. Being prepared is key to having an optimal learning environment. Here are some tips and reminders to make this school year a great one.

Parents:  Be cautious when driving through school zones. When you see a school bus, use extra caution and watch for darting children.

  • Make sure your child knows his/her name, home phone number and address.
  • Go over safety and stranger danger rules- If you don’t have a “code word” establish one now and teach your child about only going with adults who know the code word.
  • Get to know your children’s friends.
  • Make sure your child knows playground etiquette as well as being patient and taking turns.

If you are a parent with older children:

  • If your child is staying home for the first time, talk to your children about rules for staying home alone and establish guidelines for when it is acceptable to answer the door or telephone.
  • Reinforce to your child to remain aware of their surroundings when alone.
  • Talk to your child about their day, classes, activities and friends.
  • Teach your child about setting goals and time management.

TPC Group Operations Update – June 5, 2014

This is an update to notify our neighbors that the ALL CLEAR was sounded at approximately 1:30 p.m. in response to a bomb threat received earlier this morning.  In order to ensure the safety of all team members and surrounding area, we activated the necessary plans which include notifying local authorities. A thorough sweep of the facility was conducted. HPD Bomb Squad did not find anything of concern. All personnel have returned to their work location and operations resume as normal.

Should you have questions, please contact Sara Cronin at sara.cronin@tpcgrp.com or 713.475.5243.

Community empowerment begins from within — today a group of volunteers set out to clean out this abandoned lot, and it turned out great. Take a moment to look at the pictures and notice the difference.

Ask not what your community can do for you, but what you can do for your community. Tomorrow the abandon lot cleaning will continue, please refer to our previous post for more information on how to sign up to help with this project.

Vacant Lot Clean Up

Good Evening,

The Oak Meadows Civic Club will be voluntarily cleaning the abandoned lots located on the following addresses:

306 CHRISTINE
1007 AHRENS
1012 OGILVIE
900 BLK MAROBY
1200 BLK OAK MEADOW

One of the Civic Club’s duties is to look out for the physical appearance of our neighborhood, and they are doing this by taking the initiative to clean these abandoned lots. However, they cannot do it alone – WE NEED VOLUNTEERS. Mr. Sanchez has actively agreed to allows us to utilize his lawn mower, but please do not hesitate to bring your own (the faster that the lots can be mowed). If you are interested in volunteering or are in need of community service hours contact Michelle Miranda, our Civic Club president at 713-584-3532. We will be meeting at Ms. Miranda’s home (814 Ogilvie St.
Houston, Tx. 77017) at 6p.m tomorrow to begin this project.

p.s. The Oak Meadows Civic Club will provide gas/wires for your lawnmowers and weed eaters.

Remember, the neighborhood is reflective of what its own residents put in.
