Tax-free Weekend comes to Texas on Aug. 7, 8,9. For many, this sales holiday is a chance to save money for essential school and office supplies. There are rules, however. Items are only tax free if they are under $100. Many items needed for the upcoming school year fall under this price range.

“Junk Waste” is defined as items such as furniture, appliances, and other bulky material.
Tree Waste is accepted during Junk Waste Months; however, to ensure your Tree Waste is recycled, you may hold your tree waste materials until the next Tree Waste designated month or take it to a Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center.

Go the Texas Children’s Back-to-School event and get your backpacks for the new school year. While you’re at it, get your vaccines and health screenings. They will have glucose, blood pressure, vision, and dental screenings on site.

The following HFD Fire Stations have been designated to participate in the FREE Children’s Immunization Program (birth-18 years) sponsored by the Houston Fire Department & Caring for Children Foundation Care Van Program.
All children’s vaccines will be provided toUNINSURED and MEDICAID children.
***Sorry they cannot service children with CHIP or private insurance.***
Bring your child’s current immunization record to any of the clinics listed here.
Parents or guardians MUST accompany their children.

Back to school season is always bitter sweet. It marks the end of summer fun and the excitement of a new school year. The Mayor’s Back to School Fest presented by Shell and Motiva will be held on Saturday, August 15th. This year’s event will help 25,000 pre-registered students prepare for the new school year. Students will receive backpacks, school supplies, immunizations, dental exams and hair cut vouchers. Health screenings by local agencies, City of Houston and University of Houston services, and children’s undergarments will be available to families in attendance.

Harris Health System wants to help parents beat the back-to-school rush by offering school immunizations through its Troubleshooters Mobile Unit. During July and August, Troubleshooters is offering free immunizations to children two months to 18 years of age. To receive immunizations, a parent must be present with the child’s shot record. All shots will be given based on availability.
