Important Reminders

What is the CAER Line?

The CAER Line is a telephone system that can be used to get information regarding plant activities.

The CAER Line telephone number is 281-476-CAER (2237).

The phone line is divided into two sections: emergency messages and non-emergency messages.  You will be given the opportunity to choose the section you wish to hear.

Remember, the CAER Line is used to communicate emergency information and non-emergency information such as fire training or alarm testing.  If you do not hear the information in the emergency section, check the non-emergency information.  Perhaps the smoke you see is an area business conducting fire training and not an actual emergency.

When calling the CAER Line, you may hear the following:

  • Emergency information about industrial facility incidents or transportation incidents involving a rail car, tanker truck, pipeline, or marine vessel that may require public protective action.
  • General information about flaring, smoke, noise, nuisance odors, drills, firefighting training or minor incidents not requiring public protective action.
  • Shelter-in-place instructions

Q: What’s the purpose of the CAER Line?

A: To provide information about emergency incidents or non-emergency events that may cause community awareness or concern in the eastern portion of Harris County, Texas.

Q: Who can post recorded messages onto the CAER Line?

A: Trained personnel of participating private sector industrial companies (such as oil refineries, chemical plants, storage terminals) and city/county agencies (such as police/fire dispatch or emergency management officials). Industry facilities do not have to be EHCMA members.

Q: What kinds of messages are posted on the CAER Line?

A: Emergency messages about explosions, fires, and/or chemical releases that may potentially cause off-site impact – especially if it is to the community; General Information messages about non-emergency events such as firefighter training, drills, or flaring.

Q: How quickly are messages posted on the CAER Line?

A: Agency and private sector industry officials try to post at least an initial notification message within 15 minutes of an incident or event that may cause community concern.

Q: What telephone number do I call?

A: You can call 281-476-CAER (2237) to listen to any current CAER Line messages (both Emergency & General Information).

Reactivation of Super Neighborhood 75

IMG_20150417_1

Meadowcreek Village (our community neighbor) has approached the city to explore the reactivation of Super Neighborhood 75 which encompasses the Meadowbrook/Allendale area and includes Meadowcreek Village, Oak Meadows, Glenbrook Park and a number of schools in the area. The Super Neighborhood would serve as an opportunity for the residents, schools, churches, businesses and other stakeholders in the larger area to get together and discuss issues affecting the community, host speakers, and apply for city funding for community-improvement projects.

Since we, Oak Meadows is one of the principal neighborhoods that would be included in Super Neighborhood 75 it would greatly improve and benefit our living surroundings. City representatives  were present to explain the process to get the Super Neighborhood back up and running as well as some of the other stakeholders.

Speakers and attendees from left to right: Kevin Calfie – Division Manager-COH P&D; Mark Johnson – MVCC, Maria Bolanos – Liaison-Mayor’s Office, Michelle Miranda, Oak Meadow’s-Civic Club President; Kathryn Pait –  Missy Meadowbrook, Meadowbrook, Evan Austin -Division Manager-Councilman Martin’s Office, Suzanne Hoy Riggenbach, Meadowcteek Village Civic Club President; Mark Clemmons MVCC Treasurer and involved citizens from all communities!

The rain has given us all a break and the sun is out!!

Please take this time throughout the weekend to rake up all the leaves from the curb of your house so that the water can flow.

Easter even is coming up and the bunny will be visiting our neighborhood along with the plant directors who are located behind us.

Show how good our homes can look when the sun permits!!

If you know of any resident who needs help then let me know of the address so that we can gather volunteers for them.

Have a great weekend!

Speaker: TPC – Air Monitoring

We had a great meeting! TPC Group Sara Cronin, Mark Garza, Robert Parnell and Michelle Pyner showed a presentation regarding their mission, their commitment to all surrounding neighbors, air quality, flaring and of the Phoenix project. It was both informative and educational for all residents involved.  TPC provided breakfast for us all and has provided several resources that can be helpful to us all.

Do you have several questions around air monitoring? Although some of you are aware of TCEQ, I think there are a few resources you may find interesting.

I’ve included the links here:

·         Houston Regional Monitoring (http://hrm.radian.com/)

·         TCEQ’s Air Pollutant Watch List (http://www.tceq.texas.gov/permitting/air/apwl/apwl.html)
