August 4th – Junk Waste

“Junk Waste” is defined as items such as furniture, appliances, and other bulky material.

Tree Waste is accepted during Junk Waste Months; however, to ensure your Tree Waste is recycled, you may hold your tree waste materials until the next Tree Waste designated month or take it to a Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center.

Junk Waste months are February, April, June, August, October and December.

Juvenile Curfew – HPD

Even though school is out, there is still a juvenile curfew in the City of Houston. The curfew applies to juveniles under the age of 17.

Juveniles cannot remain, walk, run, drive or ride about in or upon any public place in the city between the hours of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12 a.m. (midnight) to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

There are exceptions, such as being with parents, which are listed here on the City of Houston website.

TPC Group Operations Update – June 5, 2014

This is an update to notify our neighbors that the ALL CLEAR was sounded at approximately 1:30 p.m. in response to a bomb threat received earlier this morning.  In order to ensure the safety of all team members and surrounding area, we activated the necessary plans which include notifying local authorities. A thorough sweep of the facility was conducted. HPD Bomb Squad did not find anything of concern. All personnel have returned to their work location and operations resume as normal.

Early Voting for the May 27th Primary Runoff Election

Early voting for the May 27th runoff election is here! Early voting runs from Monday, May 19th until Friday, May 23rd. Early voting polling locations will be open from 7am until 7pm, and you can vote at any of the regular early voting locations in Harris County. Don’t forget your ID! Election day is Tuesday, May 27th. 

With numerous important statewide and local races yet to be decided, every vote counts going into next Tuesday’s election. For a list of Republican candidates on the runoff ballot, please see click here.

HDHHS, Children’s Museum to offer free child vaccinations Thursday

HDHHS, Children’s Museum to offer free child vaccinations Thursday

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) and the Children’s Museum of Houston will offer free immunizations to children on Thursday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in observance of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW).The Houston Care Van program will provide the vaccines during the museum’s Free Family Night Thursday on a first-come, first serve basis (while supplies last) to children who receive Medicaid, CHIP, or are uninsured.  Children with private insurance do not qualify.  There’s no need to pre-register. To qualify, parents and guardians will need their child’s immunization records.

Vaccines include Hepatitis A and B, Meningitis, PCV 13, Dtap, Tdap, HPV, Polio and Rotavirus.

NIIW is an annual observance highlighting the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases. NIIW is on April 26 – May 3, 2014.  After the vaccinations, children and families are invited to stay and enjoy the many hands-on exhibits the Museum has to offer.  Head to FlowWorks and EcoStation to enjoy the great outdoors.

Flaring at TPC Plant – March 30, 2014

This is a courtesy message to notify you that at approximately 9 a.m. today Sunday, March 30, 2014 our plant alarm was sounded due to an issue with our boiler system. Our response team is working onsite to mitigate the issue as safely and quickly as possible.  During this time, there may be flaring from our facility.  We do not expect any impact to our employees, industrial or community neighbors. We apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have caused.  

Again, please be sure your neighbors are aware that we are working diligently to resolve this matter quickly and safely.

Tree Waste

“Tree Waste” is defined as “clean” wood waste such as tree limbs, branches, and stumps. Lumber, furniture, and treated wood will NOT be accepted. 

Heavy Trash is the first Monday of the month which is March 3rd

Junk Waste may NOT be placed for collection during a Tree Waste month.

Tree Waste months are January, March, May, July, September, and November.

Participate in Houston FAFSA Day 2014

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

The Department of Neighborhoods invites Houstonians to participate in Houston Free Application for Financial Student Aid Day at various locations Thursday, February 20th. Area school districts, non-profit organizations and the City of Houston are providing free help to residents filling out the following:

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA) for Texas non-citizens

There will also be FREE “trusted centers” offering students and families help completing the financial aid process through March.

Students and families can find help and resources! Volunteers can donate their time and support Houston students! Community organizations can join our partnership and help us increase FAFSA and TASFA completion in Houston! Be part of the solution and help raise the percentage of Houstonians with degrees!
