Minutes of Oak Meadows Civic Club Meeting

Tuesday, February 20, 2024

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President Jesus Gonzalez.

Due to attendance being below quorum required for Voting purposes – Election of officers did not take place at this meeting. Current Committees were discussed and Nominees were put to the floor by Rita Snow and this motion was seconded by Jennifer Peria, MG and NF. Rita S. stated that she will act as Secretary until someone is nominated to become secretary full time. JG briefly reminded the reasoning of stepping up as President and how our neighborhood has a lot of potential for improvements in becoming more prosperous and unified. He wishes more residents would participate. There is a need for Volunteers to serve committee’s such as Social and Beautification to assist our neighborhood.

  • 7:11pm Dustin Hodges, Chief of Staff with Councilman Flickinger’s discuss several issues regarding OM Park. 
  1. Soccer goals to be a permanent fixture, nets coming along with striping of field for soccer.
  2. Park table situation, the COH parks dept will replace two (2) tables back to where they were located and CM Flickinger’s office will cover the costs of the other two (2) tables that were removed without notification and conviction by those who work within Parks dept.
  3. Handicap entries will be first on the list to get completed in March.
  4. Current light poles will soon be fitted with LED fixtures and turned so that light will be on the inside of park instead of facing outside.
  5. Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) issues will take place later this year under the new administration and our water lines being 74 yrs old will be studied.
  6. It is agreed that no black top will go on our streets.
  7. A current study is being performed for the possible traffic light on Allen Genoa at Ahrens.  Resident, Mr. Mendoza brought up issue that many traffic accidents took place in December and January at this intersection.

Mr. Hodges mentioned that in the near future an electronic recycling event may take place at the Monroe Park-n-Ride location. More details to come.

  • 7:37pm Officer Silva, HPD
  • advised of the many tickets he has written for running stop signs and the 18 wheelers cutting through on Ahrens to Allen Genoa – or vice versa. He stated that the Constable’s office Precinct 2 will also assist on calls to please contact them in case HPD has not shown up.
  • Lock your guns so that no child can get ahold of them. Contact him if there is any problem.
  • Junk Motor Vehicles (JMV) and Abandoned homes were reported for investigation.
  • Save the date! March 23, 2024 at Mason Park HPD will hold a community event from 9am to 2pm. Vendor trucks will be on location.

Minutes of Board Mtg on 1.20.2024 

Our mtg was called to order by President Jesus Gonzalez at 940am. Introductions were given by those in attendance, MG, JG, TG, NF, RS and Ms. Melissa Arce joined the officers in attendance as our new person for website updates.

MG stated that our main goal for 2024 was to keep our community in

order and continue with CC to run smoothly, including committees for beautification – socialization – website – and communication to residents.

The expense audit of 2023 was produced by Treasurer Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Norma Flores. 

MG mentioned that the two expenses paid from TPC for the website of OMCC and Invista’s payment for the sign printing needed to be documented in Expense Report since they were paid direct to website organizer and Printer.

RS noted that the report also needed to document what the payments were used for on report.

NF advised that she will put all info on members in an Excel spreadsheet.

Topics also discussed were speak to Capt/HPD and Lt over evening shift about visible patrol prior to July 4th, reach out to Judge about community service workers and touch base with Incarnate Word church on community service workers.  MG also  mentioned that she has spoke with Principal Rucker School about holding CC mtgs at school.

At the upcoming meeting, there will be nomination and voting on officers.

Suggested speakers were 1.  Officer Silva HPD to cover gun shots, fireworks, HT violations and drug dealing homes; 2. CM Flickinger’s office representative Yasmin Perez to cover park soccer field goals and markings, removal of NLT signs and possibility of traffic light; & 3. Constable Garcia.
