Deepwater Demolition

Please note the information about the demolition work that will take place on Sunday, April 12th at AES…just to the east of LyondellBasell.  A flyer that you can share with your family, friends and neighbors is attached along with a picture of the site where the demolition will take place.

AES has made a good effort to communicate with those who may hear or observe the activities of the demolition project, and asked that you be notified in advance of the  event.   Please share this with your nearby neighbors — mj

A Courtesy Message from AES Corporation regarding the demolition of a boiler unit and chimney tower

on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

·         The AES Corporation closed operation of its Deepwater power production plant in Pasadena, Texas in 2013 due to business conditions.

·         The plant resides in three jurisdictions – City of Pasadena, City of Houston and Harris County.

·         The 475’ chimney and boiler structure will be lowered on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. CDT.

·         AES and its expert specialty contractors, have been working with local government agencies from the City of Pasadena, City of Houston and Harris County to organize and communicate road closures, an exclusion zone in which no member of the public will be allowed and a media staging area to report on the controlled dismantling of the facility.

·         Safety is the number one priority — surrounding neighborhoods and local businesses have been notified and all emergency precautions and emergency management plans are in place.

·       The public can expect to hear several loud bursts within a matter of seconds and see a dust cloud as the structures are lowered.

·       Any dust will not contain hazardous particles or residues from the former plant operations and efforts will be made to minimize the dispersion.

·         Public viewing is discouraged.

·         A variety of options are under consideration for the future development of the site.
