What is the CAER Line?

The CAER Line is a telephone system that can be used to get information regarding plant activities.

The CAER Line telephone number is 281-476-CAER (2237).

The phone line is divided into two sections: emergency messages and non-emergency messages.  You will be given the opportunity to choose the section you wish to hear.

Remember, the CAER Line is used to communicate emergency information and non-emergency information such as fire training or alarm testing.  If you do not hear the information in the emergency section, check the non-emergency information.  Perhaps the smoke you see is an area business conducting fire training and not an actual emergency.

When calling the CAER Line, you may hear the following:

  • Emergency information about industrial facility incidents or transportation incidents involving a rail car, tanker truck, pipeline, or marine vessel that may require public protective action.
  • General information about flaring, smoke, noise, nuisance odors, drills, firefighting training or minor incidents not requiring public protective action.
  • Shelter-in-place instructions

Q: What’s the purpose of the CAER Line?

A: To provide information about emergency incidents or non-emergency events that may cause community awareness or concern in the eastern portion of Harris County, Texas.

Q: Who can post recorded messages onto the CAER Line?

A: Trained personnel of participating private sector industrial companies (such as oil refineries, chemical plants, storage terminals) and city/county agencies (such as police/fire dispatch or emergency management officials). Industry facilities do not have to be EHCMA members.

Q: What kinds of messages are posted on the CAER Line?

A: Emergency messages about explosions, fires, and/or chemical releases that may potentially cause off-site impact – especially if it is to the community; General Information messages about non-emergency events such as firefighter training, drills, or flaring.

Q: How quickly are messages posted on the CAER Line?

A: Agency and private sector industry officials try to post at least an initial notification message within 15 minutes of an incident or event that may cause community concern.

Q: What telephone number do I call?

A: You can call 281-476-CAER (2237) to listen to any current CAER Line messages (both Emergency & General Information).

The Super Neighborhood would serve as an opportunity for the residents, schools, churches, businesses and other stakeholders in the larger area to get together and discuss issues affecting the community, host speakers, and apply for city funding for community-improvement projects.

Since we, Oak Meadows is one of the principal neighborhoods that would be included in Super Neighborhood 75 it would greatly improve and benefit our living surroundings. A Courtesy Message from AES Corporation regarding the demolition of a boiler unit and chimney tower

on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

·         The AES Corporation closed operation of its Deepwater power production plant in Pasadena, Texas in 2013 due to business conditions.

·         The plant resides in three jurisdictions – City of Pasadena, City of Houston and Harris County.

·         The 475’ chimney and boiler structure will be lowered on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. CDT.

·         AES and its expert specialty contractors, have been working with local government agencies from the City of Pasadena, City of Houston and Harris County to organize and communicate road closures, an exclusion zone in which no member of the public will be allowed and a media staging area to report on the controlled dismantling of the facility.

·         Safety is the number one priority — surrounding neighborhoods and local businesses have been notified and all emergency precautions and emergency management plans are in place.

·       The public can expect to hear several loud bursts within a matter of seconds and see a dust cloud as the structures are lowered.

·       Any dust will not contain hazardous particles or residues from the former plant operations and efforts will be made to minimize the dispersion.

·         Public viewing is discouraged.

·         A variety of options are under consideration for the future development of the site.

Park Build Community Grant Initiative

Vote for One of Three Houston Parks
in the
Parks Build Community Challenge

This Earth Month, the National Recreation and Park Association, Disney | ABC Television Group and ESPN are collaborating to revitalize parks across the U.S., including one here in Houston!

Through the Parks Build Community Grant Initiative, one of three Houston parks will receive a $20,000 grant and it’s up to you to help determine which park wins. Cast a daily vote for your favorite park project at NRPA.org/BeInspired from April 1 to April 30. At the end of April, the park project with the most votes will receive the grant funding. Houston is one of 15 American communities selected to participate in this initiative.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department projects are:

  • Herman Brown Park: The Northshore Nature Walk will provide access to outdoor passive recreation and nature-based activities. A nature trail with mulch surface, seating areas and native plantings will be created to give park visitors access to wildlife viewing in a remote part of the park. Invasive species in the surrounding forest will be removed.

  • Milby Park: Soccer Mini-Pitch Court Improvements will install a 20-foot fence around the perimeter of the newly resurfaced courts to increase safety for players and spectators, keeping the soccer ball inside the play area and away from the nearby park road. They will benefit students registered in the Soccer for Success program.
  • MacGregor Park: Six tennis courts at the Homer Ford Tennis Center will be resurfaced with blended lines for 10 & under play. These upgraded courts will help expand play and practice time for younger kids who participate in the free Youth Tennis Program, enhancing their practice and playtime experience.

Show how parks build your community and vote now! For more information and to vote, visit NRPA.org/BeInspired.
