Neighborhood News

Oak Meadows Impacted by Weather

Neighbors,

Due to the recent weather a lot of homes had power outages and damaged homes. Please, have all branches, tree limbs, etc. pushed to the curb for pick up.

The City of Houston Waste Department has been notified of the impact the weather had on our community and they have asked for some street boundaries for pick up.
If you have any junk waste please, notify me in order to get it reported and target first the streets that need it the most.
Warmly,
Yvette Hernandez

Thank You Michelle!

A few words from Michelle Miranda; She led this Civic Club from 2009-2015. Thank you for all your hard work, Michelle.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE AND THANK YOU, MS. BLANCO FOR THE USE OF THE FACILITY. IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE THESE PAST 6 YEARS AND NONE OF WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE WAY YOU HAVE.

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ASKED WHY I CARE SO MUCH TO TAKE ON THIS ROLL AND LEAD THE COMMUNITY THE WAY I HAVE? FOR ONE…. IT WAS MY ACCEPTED DUTY AS PRESIDENT & BECAUSE I BELIEVED THAT WE LACKED THE KNOWLEDGE AND DUE TO OUR LANGUAGE BEING SPANISH. I OFFERED TO BE THE SOUNDING VOICE TO COMMUNICATE MATTERS OF THE COMMUNITY.

OUR CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY ARE REASON ENOUGH FOR ME TO WANT TO IMPROVE OUR LIVING SURROUNDINGS AND OUR KIDS SAFETY, CRIME STATS AND OUR AREA ARE LIVING PROOF OF OUR SUCCESS!

NOW, THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS LEARNED THAT THE CITY AND HPD ARE ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BECOME INVOLVED THAT I NOW BELIEVE IT WILL BE SOON THAT OUR COMMUNITY WILL RISE IN THE STATISTICS AND WILL LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF A VOTE AND HOW IT MAKES A CHANGE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF US ALL!

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME TO THANK THE FOLLOWING OFFICERS WHO HAVE BEEN COMMITTED SINCE 2009 WHEN WE BEGAN AND IF YOU’RE HERE PLEASE JOIN ME TO THE FRONT.? THIS FIRST GROUP OF OFFICERS HAVE ATTENDED EVERY MEETING, EVENT, PIP MEETING, HCAP AND VOLUNTEERED EVERY CLEANUP PROJECT AND HAVE NEVER LEFT MY SIDE AND ARE STILL VOLUNTEERING THEIR TIME TODAY!!

Resource Assessment

Meadowbrook/Allendale is located on Houston’s southeast edge bounded by the cities of Pasadena and South Houston, Loop 610, the Gulf Freeway, and the Ship Channel. The northern part of the community is home to several major chemical plants. The southern corner, which was once an oilfield, is now an industrial area. Several wooded neighborhoods with single-family homes are nestled in between. The oldest areas, Meadowbrook and Allendale, were built before World War II. After the war, Forest Oaks and Oak Meadows were built for Houston’s growing population of middle-income citizens. The newest addition to the area, Meadowcreek Village, contains the largest homes in the community.
